The Core Plot:

Season 1 (1919):

The series starts in post-WWI Birmingham. The Shelby family leads a gang called the Peaky Blinders, who run illegal betting and control much of Small Heath. Thomas "Tommy" Shelby, recently returned from the war, plans to expand the gang's influence. When a crate of guns meant for the military goes missing—and ends up in Tommy’s hands—it draws the attention of Chester Campbell, a brutal police inspector sent by Winston Churchill to clean up the city.

Tommy meets Grace Burgess, a barmaid (secretly an undercover agent), and they fall in love. But their relationship is shaken when her real identity is revealed.

Season 2 (1921):

Tommy expands the gang’s influence to London and battles powerful rivals like Sabini and Solomons (played brilliantly by Tom Hardy). The family gets involved in fixing horse races and expanding legitimate business fronts. Grace returns, pregnant with Tommy's child. Tommy also starts interacting more with government forces and begins his rise into higher social and political circles.

Season 3 (1924):

Tommy marries Grace, and they seem to have a peaceful family life—until Grace is assassinated during a charity event. Tommy is drawn deeper into political games and blackmailed by a secret organization called the Economic League, involving Russian aristocrats and stolen jewels. The season ends with Tommy sacrificing several family members to save his son, resulting in the gang’s arrest—but also showing he has deeper plans.

Season 4 (1925):

The Italian Mafia, led by Luca Changretta (Adrien Brody), arrives in Birmingham for revenge against the Shelbys. It becomes a brutal war between families. Meanwhile, Tommy grows closer to his sister-in-law Lizzie, and their relationship develops. By the season's end, Tommy wins the war and is elected as a Member of Parliament, making him both a gangster and a political figure.

Season 5 (1929):

Set during the stock market crash, Tommy now has wealth and political power, but he's also battling inner demons and increasing instability. He comes into contact with Oswald Mosley, a real-life fascist leader. Tommy plans to assassinate Mosley during a rally, but the plan fails mysteriously. He also continues to spiral mentally, haunted by visions and trauma.

Season 6 (1933):

The final season deals with loss, betrayal, and legacy. Aunt Polly Gray is killed off (due to actress Helen McCrory’s real-life passing). Tommy learns he has a terminal illness (or so he believes), and he begins to make peace with his life and prepare for a “final act.” His daughter Ruby dies, which sends him into a rage against a Romani curse. In the end, Tommy realizes he was manipulated by Mosley’s people and fakes his own death, riding off alone.
